The Education Concentration is designed to offer students, who are interested in teaching, opportunities to gain foundational knowledge, methodology, and practical experience in the field of education. Students in the concentration can focus on either elementary or secondary education.
The concentration can lead to state certification with the addition of student teaching for grades 7-12 in Life Science (Biology), English Language Arts and Reading, History, Mathematics, Social Studies (History, Politics, Economics and Geography), Physics/Mathematics and Science (Biology, Chemistry, Geology and Physics); for grades 6-12 in Physical Science (Physics and Chemistry); and for grades EC-12 in Art, Theatre Arts (Drama) and Languages Other than English (LOTE) in French, German, Latin and Spanish.

*Instructional Practice requires a minimum of a half day of practical classroom experience for 14 weeks under the supervision of a cooperating teacher and a university field supervisor.
Students who have earned the elementary concentration who (then) wish to pursue Texas teacher certification after graduation need to talk to an advisor in the Education department about Alternative Certification and 4+1.
