Course Description

The underwater environment will be explored in this course through one of two experiential learning opportunities. Option 1: Students will complete an open water SCUBA diving course through a certified dive shop in the Dallas area, two wet labs on campus, and travel to the Dallas World Aquarium to obtain observational data to complete a written laboratory report. Option 2: Students will travel to the Florida Keys and stay at one or more marine laboratory field stations in the Florida Keys over the spring break period. Students will attend week long field activities, lectures, and wet labs. A final laboratory report and oral presentation will be completed within two weeks of returning from the trip. Prior SCUBA certification is encouraged, but not required. The course can fulfill the life science core laboratory section. Spring, Spring Break.
